Is the newsletter email trigger compatible with 3rd party extensions?

If you're using a 3rd party extension to subscribe someone to the newsletter - let's say a popup extension or something like that - as long as that extension saves the subscriber to the newsletter subscribers table, it will be compatible with the newsletter email trigger.
